Replacements for Internet Explorer and Outlook Express. Firefox is a great web browser that I use on both Windows and Linux. Thunderbird is an email client like Outlook Express. Both are much less prone to Windows virus and spyware problems.
Slashdot
"News For Nerds", a great waste of time, and interesting commentary on current events in technology.
Gentoo Linux
My pre-Ubuntu Linux distribution of choice. It's somewhat involved, but it's fun to tinker with.
Ubuntu Linux
A desktop Linux distribution based on Debian. This is a good one to start with.
Apple's Macintosh OS X
This is my desktop operating system of choice. It's based on Unix, which has a reputation for security and reliability, and it shows! The user interface is both beautiful and functional. I've already converted my parents. Are you next?
Mac OS X Hints
A great site for tips and tricks for OS X.
Plone
Plone is a content management system running on the Zope framework, which is written in Python. Confused yet? It's the CMS that's running this site. It's a great product, but it has a really steep learning curve.
