Firefox about:config URL bar tweaks

In about:config, these are some settings I use to undo some of the "friendly" (note the quotes) behavior introduced in newer versions of Firefox.

In about:config

  • browser.urlbar.formatting.enabled false - Disables the grayed out URL path option
  • browser.urlbar.trimURLs false - Disables the hiding of http:// in the URL bar
  • browser.download.useToolkitUI true - Disables the TMI download manager in Firefox 20
  • browser.feeds.handler.default bookmarks - Use live bookmarks for RSS display
  • browser.newtabpage.enabled false - Remove Safari style thumbnails from initial tab page
  • browser.tabs.onTop false - Don't emulate Chrome's tabs above the URL bar
  • browser.search.showOneOffButtons false - Don't show fancy search dropdown (and change it back to Google!)
  • network.http.speculative-parallel-limit 0 - Disallow background reuqest when hovering (via How to Quash Firefox's Silent Requests)

Other Changes
